mgMEDIA Signs Agreement with LG Electronics to Develop Smart TV Applications
LG, leader in consumer electronics, has reached an agreement with mgMEDIA for the development of applications and strategic consultancy services for the new LG Smart TV with internet access.
There are currently 20 million Internet-connected TVs in homes all over the world. It is predicted that in the next five years this figure will multiply by 40, reaching a total of 8 billion. This means more than 2.7 billion applications downloaded from Smart TV application shops, a significant figure if we consider that the number of applications currently downloaded is difficult to quantify due to being such a small amount. Before 2015, the TV APP market will already be moving $1.9 billion (source: GigaOM Pro).
Any content or service provider wishing to reach the end client in this new era must be present on the screens of the main manufacturers.
In the race to offer users the best content, Asian giant LG has reached an agreement with mgMEDIA to offer consultancy services to providers integrated into the new LG Smart TVs.
In addition, mgMEDIA has a team that specialises in the development of this type of APP which has designed and developed platforms like the cinema shop “Chili” from Fastweb (Swisscom group) available on LG TVs in Italy, the Telepizza home delivery channel and other utility and entertainment services.
Jerónimo Macanás, CEO of mgMEDIA, was clearly satisfied with this agreement: “We are convinced that the future of entertainment will undoubtedly pass through Internet-connected TV screens, therefore it is an honour to be able to be partners with and strategic consultants for LG, one of the world leaders in consumer electronics”.
“The agreement with mgMEDIA arose from LG’s commitment to offer the best content on the market for televisions incorporating Smart TV technology”, states Jaime de Jaraiz, Commercial Director of LG Spain”. “With Smart TVs the consumer will be able to access the main information platforms, bespoke services and navigate easily and comfortably”.
In the next few months new applications will be added to the LG range which will soon be able to compete in variety and utility with the already famous smartphone applications.
